Russ's Birthday, etc.

Last Saturday, June 21, was Russ's birthday. Grandma and Grandpa Haycock came and we went to Texas Road House for lunch and then we had what Russ has been craving, strawberry shortcake. He's a big 23 now!

Psycho Boy!

More Minerette Stuff--this time in the shape of a quilt. Morgan, the drill coach, is having a baby in August. I made her this quilt for a shower they are having for her in July. Pretty cute, eh?

We had yet another Minerette party--this time with the parents, too. Sorry, no pictures of parents. The girls are much cuter than we are and they actually enjoy being in front of the camera.

Amy spent this week at drill camp in Ogden. She had tons of fun and was picked to be in the Top Corp (top 5 girls at camp) for the second year in a row. Way to go, Amster!

Cancer Benefit

On June 13, the Minerettes performed at the Relay for Life Cancer Benefit. They also put a team together to walk as a relay team from about 8:00 pm until 6:00 am. They performed last year's lyrical which everyone loved. They were pretty good about taking their turns walking until about 2:00 am and when most everyone fell asleep. A few of us kept our relay team going until about 3:00 am and then went to bed. David tried to single-handedly keep our team going, but he finally gave up at 4:00 am. We still managed to raise a nice chunk of change.

After performing "In Any Other World"

They woke us up at 6:00 am. Here's a happy camper!

Right before the final lap. Enthusiasm abounds!

Breakfast--where Amy and Karly ham it up (as usual).

Amy, Our Senior

Well, it finally happened. Amy is officially a senior. The yearbook stomp was last Monday, graduation on Tuesday, and Wednesday morning at 5:00 am was the Senior Sunrise Breakfast. A lot of the new seniors pulled an all-nighter Tuesday night, and of course, Amy was one of them. She spent the night with a bunch of friends, both girls and guys, in a place they call "the barn." It's a huge garage-type building that has been converted into a teenage hangout. They had an absolute blast, but they got really tired and had to go get energy drinks in the middle of the night. She has some really good friends who know how to behave themselves, so it was good, clean fun.

Heading to graduation with the girls

Always a comic

Buddies: (starting at top and going clockwise) Astra (She's the one with cystic fibrosis. She has a hard time dancing, but she still does on about 40% lung capacity. She's one of Amy's best friends.), Karly (Amy's best friend), DJ, Keith, Nick, Jack, Amy, Haylee. There were a whole lot more kids coming and going. They all had a great time.

Minerettes

A new Minerette year has begun. It's our third and final year. Last year was kind of a disappointment, so the senior parents this year are determined to get the girls united as a team and hope that good things will happen. At the very least, they will have a more positive experience. We started the year with a social based on Survivor. It was a lot of fun.

The girls were divided into two teams, and they painted their faces.

Motto for the year.

The girls had to do a bunch of challenges. The last one was grabbing a gumball with their mouth out of a pie tin full of whipping cream. The winner was the first to blow a bubble. The gum sort of fell apart sitting in the cream so no one won. Just as everyone thought it was over, one of the girls smashed a pie tin full of cream into Amy's face. Amy immediately got her back and then bedlam broke out. It was hilarious. They were all such a mess. The mom planning the whole thing just stood there and cried, "This isn't on my agenda!" Sooooo funny!

The girls ended with a nice pep talk from their coach and a bracelet with the word Lanakila on it. Lanakila means "to bring victory" in Hawaiin. It was a fun way to start the year. The next day was the car wash. We washed cars all day. Being a Minerette mom is a lot of work. I'm pooped.
